Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the rib cage, just behind the front legs. This is the measurement that matters most.

Back length
Measure along the spine from the base of the neck, where a collar sits, to the base of the tail.

Neck
Measure around the neck where a collar would sit. Keep the tape snug, with room for two fingers.
- Choose by chest first, then check back length.
- Between two sizes? Go up one, especially for deep-chested dogs and thick knits.
- Sizes vary by maker. A Medium from one brand is not a Medium from another, so measure each time, and check the product photos and description for that maker's own measurements when they're listed.
